Path of Exile Item Upgrading
In Path of Exile, item upgrading is one of the most effective ways to upgrade your gear without relying upon big-ticket drops or trade. This article will show you how to upp your gear effectively.
Upgrading equipment grants an additional bonus to the item's base stats. The bonus is depending on the rarity and strength of the upgrade component.
Components
Upgrade components are the parts that make your weapons and armor more effective. You can get them from destroying enemies, finding them in item spheres, or buying them from karma dealers. You can also get them from equipment that contains the components or through high-tier salvage kits such as Black Lion Salvage Kit and Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components aren't destroyed by removing them from an item.
Upgrade components are mostly used to upgrade an item, but they can also be used for other reasons. They can be stacked to increase the level of experience gained from upgrading existing weapons or gear. They can also be forged to provide extra bonuses. For instance, a created glyph can increase the chances of upgrading its target, while a boost upgrade will enhance the defense or attack quality of a weapon or armor.
Selecting an upgrade template from the GUI will allow you to connect it to an item. This will display a list of upgrade components that the item can be upgraded to. You can also use the workbench to select an upgrade template. In either instance, the item will be upgraded once enough upgrade components are collected.
Each component has its own experience multiplier. upgrade item determines how much experience an item gains when upgraded using the component. For instance, organic components give a higher experience multiplier than mechanical ones. It is therefore best to upgrade with organic components until you reach the multiplier of experience for the next rank of the weapon or gear, and then switch to mechanical upgrades.
Each item comes with an upgrade maximum number that is available for. The number of upgrades available is determined by the upgradeable rank and the upgrade type of the upgradeable item. The highest upgrade possible is a weapon of tier 10. However, the most popular upgrade for weapons is the tier 6 weapon and a tier 5 armor upgrade.
Sets
A set is a group of items that share a bonus. Each item in the set can be upgraded at least once and each upgrade boosts its guaranteed bonuses. The first time you upgrade a set piece or weapon, it will receive an increase of +1 to its primary stat. On subsequent upgrades, the primary stats are boosted even further (for instance the +1 bonus for 12+/13+/14+) and every time an item is upgraded, one of its stats will increase randomly.
Upgrading a weapon can also increase its damage base, which could be important for some builds. Weapons aren't upgraded to give greater maximum defence rolls than their base. It is a good way to improve the value of a set and unique items, but it's important to remember that they're not necessarily superior to a high-level runeword in any build.
If an item you're upgrading has a guaranteed bonus it is able to be rerolled once and the guarantee will reset to 0. Rerolling costs the same amount of power dice as leveling an item, but the upgraded item will come with different extra bonuses. Upgrades can be completed by visiting the NPC [Armorthe ] Boboko in Central Flarine. To upgrade an item, you'll require a power dice of each kind (Dice 4 or 6 drop from monsters 21+ and Giants; Dice 7 drops from bosses) and the appropriate amount of Minerals and Erons. These can be purchased by using Gold at the crafting table, or in the Ultra Collection. The NPC will also provide an additional reward for each completed tier of the upgrade process. This reward can be rerolled one time using the same materials as the original item.
Rerolling
A player can reroll any item acquired in the game provided they have enough reroll tokens to be able to do so. If an upgraded item is to be rerolled, it will be exchanged for an equivalent version that is level 1 of the same item in another set. Reroll tokens can be purchased at the store for a small amount of in-game currency. They are non-refundable. The new item will have the same bonus features as the original, but the stats will also differ.
Players can change the identification of their equipment as well as rerolling it by interacting with an upgrader NPC. This will change the identification from an armored weapon to a weapon, or vice versa, all the while keeping its basic stats and the attributes it requires. The change will be permanent and will affect all characters who have the equipment.
Players can also boost the level of their item on any equipped equipment by obtaining upgrade components and communicating with the NPC who upgrades the item. The cost will vary depending on the upgrade track, the item type, and the number of crests. Each step will give an additional 5% of damage to weapons.

An upgrade will make it more powerful however, it can also lower its quality. It is therefore essential to find a balance between the two. Certain items might not be worth upgrading however, others will need to be upgraded to realize their potential. For instance, a player might decide to upgrade a piece of breakpoint armor with an interesting modifier (% chance to block or FHR) to discover what it could be.
Rerolling is a popular practice in Genshin Impact and other gacha-based games. People use it in order to get an item or character they would not otherwise be able to acquire. These items can be expensive and time-consuming and the RNG gods do not always want to play ball. The only other options are to spend real money or grind extensively. This is why rerolling is a popular option in Genshin Impact.
Leveling
When upgrading an item you can pick to level up the weapon or armor. This feature isn't available in the current version of the game. I believe it was designed to be a way to add value to rare items, but since gear in general drops fairly quickly and is only upgraded after a certain amount of levels it is likely that you will replace the item before it gets too old. It's also not worth upgrading items with gem sockets since the power of the stone will outweigh any increment in the level of.
You will see a small box when you click on the upgrade option for an item. It will display the template of the item, the Crest, as well as the cost for Valorstone to raise the item's level. Armor and weapons have different costs, with the former typically being more costly. The upgrade template outlines the stats that will be added to the upgraded item. It will also list its current base ilvl.
The cost of the Valorstone and Crest is calculated using the item's current Ilvl and the upgrade templates. Additionally the ilvl of the new upgraded item will be reduced by the template's lvl decrease percentage. For instance weapons with an 8% upgrade decrease will decrease its ilvl by 8 - 8 percent.
In addition to the base ilvl boost, the item will also be upgraded in other stats like critical strike damage, PvE damage and dodge, block and parry rating. The increases are also dependent on the upgrade template.
The amount of damage and defense that the item receives when leveled up can be observed below the upgrade cost and decrease percentages in the upgrade template window. Apart from the equipment for practice, all items and armor get the same stats when they are leveled up. The value of these additional stats will be dictated by the market, with a perfectly rolled perfect version of a weapon or piece of armor is able to command higher trade values than non-upp'd versions. This is also true for other pieces of armor such as circlets or tiaras.
